Don’t forget your kitchen this Summer!

These past 14 months have seen many of us enjoying the simpler things in life.

From leisurely walks and fresh air, to undertaking a new hobby, we’ve learnt to appreciate the little things more. As restrictions ease and we take to eating out or enjoying a coffee whilst ‘out and about’ we mustn’t loose sight of the important role our kitchen have played. Along with being a make-shift home office, and obviously a place to cook in, our kitchens have been one of the few places we could escape to and silently scream in, in a bid to get away from the chaos of home schooling or a partner who isn’t normally around! For those of us who have embraced polishing up our culinary skills, or for any novice chef, a stylish and well planned kitchen is essential. Like many tradespeople who blame their tools, a non-functioning, badly planned kitchen is a ‘recipe for disaster!’

Equally deserving of a well planned kitchen are those for whom cooking is merely a means to an end.

Ultimately, as the heart of the home, and one of the most used rooms, having a well planned kitchen is something we yearn for, even if cooking isn’t our forte.

Here at Ray Munn Kitchens, we specialise in designing stunning kitchens fit for every kind of chef.

Even if your kitchen to more for ‘aesthetics’ than functionality, we approach each and every kitchen design with both looks and luxury in mind.

A well planned kitchen should have a place for everything. Equipment that is easily accessible will ensure that it get used regularly. Chances are that a cumbersome mixer, stored at the back of a cupboard will get little use.

Equally, a well planned kitchen should have considered workspace, to ensure that all necessary preparation can be executed safely and efficiently. All cooking areas should have dedicated resting places and dining or seating areas should comfortably accommodate everyone.

Choosing the right type of lighting in a kitchen can be a tricky. Fundamentally there are three types of kitchen lighting – functional, general and decorative. General lighting, as its name suggests, is designed to give overall good illumination, whereas decorative lighting frequently offers little illumination, but can transform the overall appearance of a kitchen.

Ultimately, functional or directional lighting is a must in a kitchen. After all, even a novice chef needs their fingers intact! At Ray Munn Kitchens we will mix functional and directional lighting with good general lighting, whilst adding decorative lighting for those all important stylish touches.
