Kitchen ideas using more than one tone and woodgrain from Ray Munn

Two of the key kitchen trends appearing in 2021— the combination of using more than one tone across the units, and the resurgence of woodgrain.

The popularity of opting to have every unit in the kitchen being of the same uniform colour is diminishing, allowing kitchen designers and homeowners to explore the potential of mixing textures and finishes. Likewise, woodgrain looks set to be one of the main influences in 2021. This trend could be attributed to the way we have had to live our lives over the past year. Our homes have become our ‘safe place’. Whilst we have been actively encouraged to go outside for exercise, introducing ‘natural’ elements into our homes brings us that bit closer to normality. These two trends can be used independently of each other, but actually, combining woodgrain units and painted kitchen cabinets has been a trend in more traditional kitchens for many years. It’s no surprise then that these complementary trends have evolved, and as such can be seen in many Italian designer kitchens too!

traditional woodgrain kitchen island

With as spectacular views as this space has, a conventional kitchen simply wouldn’t work! Combining palest, almost whitewashed woodgrain Aria units, to form a central island unit, and matt grey eye-line height cabinets, the fabulous view outside wasn’t compromised, and neither was the style. In much the same way, the fabulous space in this open plan kitchen allowed the Ray Munn designers free reign. Inspired by the industrial interior walls and ceiling, the colour scheme of mid grey and off-white was further accentuated by a soft woodgrain shade.

Cloe kitchen

The two toned effect is taken to the next level in our Cloe kitchen, by not only combining textures, but also door styles. Sleek, deep taupe slab doors and full height units seamlessly combine with a feature run of mid-toned woodgrain Shaker base units. Staying with industrial style, this colour combination also influenced our next Cloe kitchen, which combines many textures including a polished concrete floor surface and a painted brick wall.

Naturally warmer, mid toned woodgrains add depth of colour, without sacrificing on the industrial feel. Kali, from our popular Arredo 3 Italian kitchen manufacturer features a simple slab door, and is available in both super-matt laminates and a range of woodgrains to offer the best of both worlds!

For those who prefer the distinguished looks of a more classic kitchen, there really is no better combination than that of a painted kitchen, interspersed with striking birds-eye maple veneered units! When a kitchen is called ‘Belgravia’, you know it’s going to be special! Walnut and cream takes some beating in this modern interpretation of a quintessentially English kitchen.

Davonport kitchens

For a truly bespoke solution, our Davonport kitchens can be tailored to both your design requirements and colour scheme. You choose the shades or colours of the paint, and indeed the sumptuous woodgrain, and our designers do the rest!

Arredo3 Meg

If a deeper woodgrain such as Tobacco Walnut is your preferred choice, then it’s always better to contrast it with lighter matt finishes. Meg is just one of our many Italian kitchens and is sure to add the wow factor in any home!

This same colour combination looks equally fabulous in a Davonport kitchen, where opulence and grandeur combine.

Whilst graphite and almost black kitchen units might not be to everyone’s taste, they really can look sensational when designed by the professionals!
