14 key kitchen trends for 2021

This Friday sees the start of a new year, a year that we all hope will certainly be better than 2020!

We have all been asked to ‘stay at home’ wherever possible during the last few months, and as such many of us have spent a great deal of time in our kitchens. For some, the kitchen has always been a ‘love affair’, whereas others have had to embrace or re-ignite their cooking skills! Either way, if your current kitchen isn’t up to scratch, one of your first wishes in 2021 is likely to be to invest in a new kitchen!

Whilst we can’t predict what the future holds, Ray Munn Kitchens has already identified many inspirational kitchen trends emerging for the forthcoming months and beyond 2021.

Green kitchen cabinets

Moving away from Hague blue or navy, green kitchens are set to steal the show in 2021. It’s all about bringing nature into our homes, a little bit of outside ‘in’. Choose from jewel like emerald or deep forest green, to paler shades such as sage and verdigris.

Marble

Being totally unique in appearance, nothing quite says opulence like marble does. Whether used as a worksurface, splashback or cladding, marble is sure to take your new kitchen to the next level of luxury!

Long gone are the days when every unit in a kitchen had to be the same uniform colour. Mixing textures and finishes is a sure way to not only have an on-trend kitchen, but one that oozes style and interest too!

WOODGRAIN

Woodgrain

A trend that has previously been very popular, woodgrain is set to be one of the top kitchen influences in 2021. It’s just another way of bringing a little of the outside world into our homes, allowing us to feel closer to nature.

Dramatically dark

Dare to be different and opt for drama… Previously only considered as an accent colour, achieve dramatic effects in an open plan space, with a totally dark shade of kitchen.

Pops of colour

An interior designers’ timeless favourite is to add small amounts of an accent shade or colour. From hot orange and zesty lime, to a teal feature wall, it’s not always about the colour that you pick, but more about the amount that you use!

Handleless design Kitchen

Kitchen units that are either ‘push to close’, or that have the appearance of being handleless are set to be one of the biggest kitchen trends in 2021, focusing on a pared back simplicity, where the units themselves are the hero!

‘Broken plan’ living

Whilst retaining all the spacious feel of open plan design, ‘broken plan’ living is an emerging trend. This trend sees zoning areas being created by the use of freestanding furniture, partial wall dividers and even plants to create distinction between rooms in an otherwise open plan space.

Painted kitchen revival

Ideal for the discerning customer, the painted kitchen looks set to see a resurgence in popularity in 2021! It allows the homeowner total customisation, and is almost limitless in terms of available colours, allowing for a truly unique kitchen.

Pendant lighting

Pendant lighting

When used in conjunction with practical lighting, pendant lighting is sure to add ambiance to the overall look and feel of a kitchen. It’s the perfect solution for illuminating a dedicated area such as a dining table, or centrally positioned island unit too.

Sophisticated blue kitchens

Blue is far from being a cold choice for a kitchen! From cobalt and eau de nil, to striking Hague blue, the spectrum of blue shades is always popular.

Industrial style kitchen

Industrial style

Following on from this popular trend over recent years, this design trend has moved away from the utilitarian style of recent years, evolving into a trend that combines urban looks with a more homely feel.

Dining islands

Island units frequently have a breakfast bar included as an integral part of their design. But, so as not to compromise on storage, an emerging trend is to extend the island worksurface area and create a dedicated dining area, or purpose built seating with separate table.

Statement floors

Whether the floor covering is bespoke to the kitchen alone, seamlessly continues from room to room, or changes in line with the zones in an open plan area, a stylish floor is sure to create a statement!

Whatever your style or taste, let 2021 be the year of your new kitchen.
